Reverse Tummy Tuck From Dr. George Kouris MD
It may sound as if a reverse tummy tuck undoes the results of a standard tummy tuck, but in actuality, the name of this procedure just describes how it’s done. A reverse tummy tuck, medically known as a reverse abdominoplasty, pulls the excess skin upward, whereas a standard tummy tuck pulls it downward.
What is A Tummy Tuck? – by Dr. George Kouris
A reverse tummy tuck is advantageous for people who have had earlier tummy tucks that didn’t completely eliminate loose skin above the navel. In the case of women, a reverse abdominoplasty includes an advantage for those who desire both a tummy tuck and breast augmentation. In such instances, it’s convenient to make the incision in the same place and, often, excess tissue from one body region can be utilized in another.
Reverse tummy tucks are also beneficial for men and women who experience “upper abdominal laxity” due to massive weight loss. Reverse abdominoplasty is a relative rare surgery not commonly performed by many plastic surgeons. Dr. Kouris has considerable experience with the procedure and is pleased to offer reverse tummy tucks to men and women who are good candidates for the surgery.
What To Expect During The Reverse Tummy Tuck Procedure
In a reverse abdominoplasty, Dr. Kouris will make an incision just below the breasts instead of between the navel and pubic line. The doctor will lift and trim excessive skin, removing fatty pockets, and tightening underlying tissue to improve contouring along the upper abdominal area.
When a breast augmentation such as a reduction or lift is desired, this can be included during the same procedure. For those who prefer breast augmentation that doesn’t include breast implants, the doctor can make use of the extra tissue removed from the abdominal area during the reverse tummy tuck to supplement the breasts.
Dr. Kouris will conceal as many incisions as possible along the natural curvature of the breasts. It is important for patients to know, however, that the primary scar of a reverse abdominoplasty is necessarily placed across what is called the midline. While the doctor makes every effort to ensure the scar will be thin and faint, certain low-cut tops may make it possible to see the scar.
