Hinsdale Breast Augmentation from Dr. George Kouris MD
Have you always wanted fuller breasts? Then breast augmentation (augmentation mammaplasty) may be something for you to consider. By using saline or silicone breast implants, a breast augmentation procedure allows you to achieve larger breasts and gain a more noticeable profile. Breast augmentation can restore fullness after childbirth or losing weight, or reconstruct breasts after mastectomies or injuries. Breast augmentation also helps correct differences in sizes or shapes between the left and right breasts.
Breast lifts can also be included with breast augmentation.
The Particulars About Breast Augmentation
Choosing Silicone or Saline Breast Implants
Saline breast implants are filled with salt water and are approved by the FDA for use by women eighteen years of age and older. They are inserted empty, and filled once they have been put in place.
Silicone breast implants a pre-filled with silicone gel that closely mimics the feel of a natural human breast. Silicone implants are available to women twenty-two years of age and older. They are used for breast augmentation as well as for breast reconstruction.
Each type of breast implants has particular benefits. Dr. Kouris will help you decide which option is best for you.
What To Expect During The Procedure
During the breast augmentation procedure, anesthesia is required. During your consultation with Dr. Kouris, the two of you will discuss what type of anesthesia is best for you.
What Types of Incisions May Be Done
A number of incision options are available for breast augmentation. Inframammary incisions are done within the curve of the breast that meets the chest. Transaxillary incisions are those done in the armpit area. Periareolar incisions are those that follow the curve of the nipple area. In every case, the incisions are designed to be concealed as much as possible within the body’s natural contouring.
Your personal preference will be taken into consideration, but the choice of incision type will also depend on factors like your body’s particular shape, the type of breast implant selected and the extent of the enlargement you have decided upon. During your consultation with Dr. Kouris, the two of you will discuss what incision type is best for you.
Placing The Breast Implants
Two techniques are used, the choice depending on the type of breast implants and the enlargement you have decided upon. Sub-muscular placement is when the breast implants are placed under the chest muscle. Sub-mammary or sub-glandular placement is when implants are placed between the chest muscle and breast tissue. During your consultation with Dr. Kouris, he will explain which placement is best for your breast augmentation procedure.
What To Expect During Recovery
Exact times vary. However, patients usually have twenty-four to forty-eight hours of immediate surgery recovery, followed by a few days of reduced activities. You’ll see the results of your breast augmentation immediately. As swelling and bruising fades, your new appearance will be even more obvious. The incisions will steadily fade and should be relatively faint and hardly noticeable as the months pass.
