Breast Surgery Overview
What Sets Dr. Kouris Apart?
Hinsdale Breast Implant Options from Dr. George Kouris MD
In the more than thirty years that breast augmentation has been performed, it has become the most sought-after aesthetic surgery. Improvement in development, clinical research and surgery procedures offer patients a wide array of options, which allows Dr. Kouris to customize procedures to your particular needs and the results you desire.
Many Breast Implant Options Are Offered.
Dr. Kouris uses only Implants By FDA Approved Manufacturers. Among these are:
Allergan Natrelle. The manufacturer of Natrelle is a well-known company for a number of years now. It supplies Natrelle brand silicone and saline implants, approved by the FDA, as well as medical tools and injectables such as BOTOX Cosmetic and Juvederm. In addition, Allergan has made available an outstanding cohesive gel 410 implant, also known as the “gummy bear,” renowned for its excellent ability to hold its shape.
Mentor. This manufacturer has been in the medical device industry for numerous years. Mentor’s collection of breast augmentation products matches well to that of Allergan. Like Allergan, Mentor’s products are FDA approved.
Sientra. As with Allergan and Mentor, Sientra produces high quality, FDA approved breast implant options. They work only with board-certified plastic surgeons.
The Types of Fill Material Used In Breast Implants
Cohesive Silicone Gel. Also known as a “gummy bear” implant, the silicone that it is made of is a thicker consistency than traditional silicone. The thicker silicone retards “spread” in the event of a rupture.
Standard Silicone Gel. Commonly used and still very popular today, this traditional filler has been used for decades. Prior to the development of cohesive gel (“gummy bear”) implants, standard silicone gel provided the most natural feel.
Saline. Also in use for decades, saline (or salt water) is presently the least selected implant filler. It is, however, the one approved for patients under eighteen years of age as a safe alternative.
The Various Styles of Breast Implants
Breast implant options include the “style” of implant you may choose for a breast shape that is the most pleasing to you. Called “profiles,” they are:
High Profile. Begins with a narrow base, providing more projection that offers a rounder appearance. This profile is frequently suggested for smaller-framed patients interested in enlarging their breasts.
Medium (Moderate) Profile. Presently this profile is the most frequent selection. With its medium base and moderate projection, it provides a fuller, younger looking shape.
Low Profile. With its wide base and lower projection, this style presents very natural contouring.
The Various Shape Types of Breast Implants
In addition to profiles, breast implant options include several selections of shapes. They are:
Rounded. These are implants that are fully round and with perfect symmetry. Frequently used for aesthetic surgery, these are the most commonly selected implant shape.
Anatomical (also called Shaped or Tear Drop). These implants have the shape of a natural breast. The bottom is fuller, with the top sloped. It is most frequently selected for post-mastectomy patient reconstructions, but is also chosen by those who prefer a more organically seeming shaped breast.
The Shells of Implants
The medical grade elastomer shells that hold the implant filler can have one of two qualities. They are:
Smooth. The shell is smooth, without texture. This is the most commonly used shell for round breast implant options.
Textured. The implant’s shell has a textured quality. This most frequently used for implants that are shaped or tear-drop in contour. It allows implants to anchor better with such shapes so that they don’t shift within the pocket.
